NDA Exam Pattern

National Defence Academy or NDA is the joint services academy and the cadets for the Army, Navy and Air Force get training together for a certain period of time. NDA is the world’s first academy, where three services are executed together. UPSC conducts the written exam so that candidates get admission to the NDA. The exam pattern of NDA organized and praiseworthy. However, the NDA exam pattern is mentioned here.

Paper I and Paper II are two main parts of the NDA or The National Defence Academy exam. Paper I is all about Mathematics and paper-II is general ability test.


Paper-I – Mathematics (Code 01)-300 marks -2 ½ hours
Paper –II- General Ability Test (Code 02)-600 Marks-2 ½ hours

Total 900 marks are allotted for this test.

Multiple choice questions are included in the test papers designed for the NDA exam. However, paper I and paper II part B are set in English and Hindi. Candidates are not permitted to use calculators for answering questions. After the written exam, interview will be conducted for the selected candidates. However, the interview is mainly conducted to gauge the intelligence as well as personality test of the candidates. Candidates selected for the Air Force wing must undergo the Pilot Aptitude Test.
