How to make mathematics easy to learn?

Mathematics is the study of measurement, properties, relationship of quantities, using numbers and symbols. It is used throughout the world as an essential tool in many field which includes natural, science, geography, etc. Mathematics is an important skill in the life. Mathematics can be broadly divided into the study of shapes, quantities, sets, relations, etc.

Making Mathematics easy

  • Solve problem regularly, through problem solving, children learn different ways to solve problem and it involves the ability to think mathematically and discover new ideas.
  • Practice the theorems, concepts and formulae’s regularly.
  • Learn the meaning of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and how they are related.
  • Go to Class regularly on time, listen and watch what the lecture is explaining, as some important ideas will not be written on the black board, but instead just spoken by the lecture.
  • Try to Take Good Notes; write down everything that a lecture explains on board. A good set of notes will help remind you how to do these problems.  Make a daily routine of counting or calculating numbers and solving problems.
  • Take the kid to shop, explain them the importance of math in shopping, and tell the advantages of mathematics.
  • After each class review the notes and solve more problems on the same topic.
  • Try to solve different questions on same topics.
  • Play mathematical tricks with your friends to improve your calculations.

It is a process that is usually followed in schools, colleges and universities. Additionally, competitive exams are there and students sit for those tests to learn different courses, including management courses. However, the importance of exams is immeasurable as it allows students to determine their weak areas in each subject. Additionally, it keeps the entire academic process on track.  Before start discussing the importance of examination, we must understand the function of this process. Students get knowledge from each syllabus and exam is the system to check their knowledge. In detail, through this process, students’ learning problems as well as their efficiency level are determined and it is good for them. They get acknowledgement for their skills and qualities and on the other hand, they get guidelines to improve their expertise and skills in a required manner.

The examination process at a glance:

  • Through exam students’ expertise is assessed thoroughly.
  • The students’ areas of interest are also measured.
  • Students’ problem areas in each subject are also analysed.
  • Through exams, the learning objective of each syllabus is checked.
  • Exams make students alert and serious towards their study
  • Exams streamline the learning process

CCE Pattern

CCE stands for Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation. This scheme is introduced by the CBSE board with an aim to improve the academic performance of students by determining their learning problems at regular intervals. According to the CCE pattern, corrective measures are taken by the schools from time to time to enhance the learning proficiency of students. Besides this, the CCE scheme provides flexibility to schools to plan their own academic schedules in accordance with the defined guidelines on CCE.

The new evaluation scheme is introduced to conduct holistic assessments of learners. The assessment covers co-scholastic area of life skills, values, behaviors, sports and other co-curricular activities. In simple words, the CCE pattern assessed all aspects of a child during his or her presence at the school. The objective of CCE is to minimize the exam and study pressure on the child. As per the evaluation scheme, the students will have to appear for multiple tests throughout the year. The syllabus covered in these tests will not be repeated at the end of the year. In addition to this, the marks will be replaced by grades and the grades will be awarded to students keeping in mind their adroitness, work experience skills, steadiness, innovation, public speaking, teamwork and behavior. This scheme will give equal chance to students who are not that good in academic, but are skilled in other areas like sports, athletics, arts, music, etc.

The CCE pattern is entirely different from the CBSE evaluation pattern. Some of the points are discussed below:
  • Instead of one test at the end of the academic session, there will be two different types of tests including Formative and the Summative.
  • Formative test will gauge the student’s work in class as well as in home. For instance, the oral tests, quizzes and the creativity of the assignments and projects submitted by the student.
  • The formative assessment will be conducted four times throughout the year and 40% weightage will be considered in the aggregate. Many schools conduct written test instead of oral tests, but one oral test is mandatory for all schools.
  • The summative assessment is a 3 hrs long written test, which is conducted twice a year. The first summative assessment is known as SA1, which is conducted after the first two formative assessments. The second summative assessment, i.e. SA2 is conducted after the next two formatives.
  • Each summative carry 30% weightage and both summative assessments carry 60 % weightage for aggregate.
  • The assessments are conducted by the schools, but the question papers are partially designed by the CBSE board. Apart from this, the answer sheets are also evaluated by the board.

Abacus follows the same principle of calculating with our fingers. Most of research and studies have provided that, abacus is an effective training for the children, where they may improve their speed and accuracy in calculations.

Children can perform calculations more easily and quickly, when compared to the calculators. The abacus is still used in some Asian and American countries to do calculations. It also helps the children to do multiplications very easily without learning any tables. Blind children can also learn to perform arithmetical calculations by abacus tools, as they can’t perform arithmetical calculations on papers. Abacus benefits children to develop their mental calculations, increases their ability to listen and read quickly, improve their concentration improve their speed in calculations, etc.

Abacus is a basic level of teaching mathematics; the best age for learning abacus is 4-12 years. By using abacus, four methods of calculations –additions, subtractions, multiplications, divisions, can be performed easily. Many schools and coaching centers are put up to train the students in abacus. There are different levels of abacus, based on the child’s age, the levels of abacus are taught. By learning abacus, a child can improve his level of concentration in mathematics.
